First of all, MERCI for your presence last week, which seems already a century ago. After these intense days under rain and cold, your warmth has already been most helpful.. And it was great to see so many of you having fun and meeting together.
After such a fantastic party, there was no way to escape from finishing my paniers and undertaking the trip for real!
I am lucky to start these first weeks with Anne-Claire, who's managed to take 3 weeks off and will come up to Budapest.
The night train took us eventually to Bavaria. We woke up on Saturday morning in Munich. We stayed one entire day and night at Georg & Michelle's house and we enjoyed this calm, sunny and warm day before the fisrt serious ride.
We left Munich on Sunday morning. Forget the previous day's pure blue sky, the weather turned obvioulsy completely wet and cold in the night. Whatelse for a fisrt day ?
The day went swiftly and smoothly. We reached Landshut after 85km along the fairy, jade-green Isar river. We arrived just before nightfall, kind of tired and wet, but really happy (to sleep in a warm bed)!
The 2nd day was even wetter and colder, but the lanscape was also more beautiful and wild. Winter dominates still ; colours are grey, brown and black. We could see snow from times to times along the path. Trees are still asleep, albeit discretly waking up. Birds are singing all day long in dead-looking forests. Spring flowers blossom between wide dark ponds and broken branches.
The second night took us at Plattlings, close to the Isarmünd, where we arrived frozen and proud of our performance.
After a quick and enormous german breakfast, we reached the Danube only 2,5 days after leaving Munich. We have been faster than expected, especially because bikepaths have been excellent and the unclement weather, rather motivating.
We are now resting at Antoine's beautiful apartment in Passau, right along the Inn River, facing the baroque Cathedral and the Passau peninsula.
We shall stay there for a couple of days in order to relax a bit and wash our clothes and bikes from the mud, which covered us..
