We had no idea Bavaria and Austria were such Catholic countries! There is a Christ & Co at every corner, in every room and shop and churches are just unavoidable. We had our most fervent Holy Week ever. Amen.
Seriously (!), the Great Organ of Passau, the magnificent Benedictine Abbey of Melk, the delicate theatre-like Abbey of Dürnstein, the imperial Abbey of Klosterneuburg are equally baroque and breathtaking…
Winter is now left behind, and the further East we go, the milder it gets. That´s a real relief, we even get sunburnt (Anne-Claire) and suntanned (Bart).
We still average around 70km a day, enjoying the flat-flat-flat path and a gentle tailwind… It´s a good thing we said we take it slow at first !
Traveling outside the tourist season is a luxury - if one excludes the weather - We ride all day long on our own along a splendid Radweg and the locals (first Bavarians and now Austrians) are just so kind with us (despite my German being that of a two-year old…).
We even slept outdoors for the first time between Krems and Tulln as the temperature rose significantly, and enjoyed our first sunset on the Danube: All our efforts were rewarded in an instant then, we were free and dancing under the immense sky… And our Chorba soup on the dam was the most succulent supper ever!
We eventually entered Vienna after 600km and 120´000 pedal turns very happy, hungry and thirsty. We had wonderful food and many many many beers for Anne-Claire (half a half for me) and today, only remains our insatiable happiness!
