This was my first journey alone since Anne-Claire decided to take the train back home from Vienna after reckognising that her left knee could not make it to Hungary.
Since she had to return and I was due to continue alone, we prefered it to be rather sooner than later : We only had 1.5 day in Vienna, visiting the gardens of Schonbrünn, walking around and having delikatessen at Sperl, a magnificient Viennese Café, mmmmh... so good.
Anne-Claire was the navigator of our team and it was not long till I missed her: I struggled a fairly long time (and kms!) to find my way through the different arms and canals of the Danube out of Vienna. Anyhow, I found it and stopped after 60km right in the middle of a woody Natural Park where I decided to hang my hammoc for the first time and watch the sunset and stars in the middle of birches in blossom... My first night in paradise...
The next day took me to the border with Slovaquia, facing Bratislava. Formerly part of the Iron Curtain, the border is now wide open... It's been my first time ever in "Central" Europe, and I am very very curious of everything.
I passed by Bratislava and followed the Donauradweg to a new camp in the wild. I found a lovely place where I hung my hammoc again early and had a simple dinner (but hunger made it a party!) watching the sunset on the River... And you know what ? I could observe an old beaver swimming silently between bushes. Ghostly apparition ?
The 3rd day after Vienna, I crossed over the Danube once again, leaving this time Slovaquia and entering Hungary. Borders...
Györ gave me a first good impression and my night in Tata completed the picture: Lovely people, nice cities...
I reached Budapest last Saturday afternoon , after 940km in total, where 32 000 bikers were demonstrating for the International Day of the Earth... I simply joined them, having a tour in the city free of vehicles but a bike-parade !...
After a couple of days in Budapest, I am seduced. Hey Guys, that's a lovely place to spend a week-end!
