I have arrived in Szeged on Monday at dusk. This rather big city is the gate to Serbia or Romania.
It rained all day but both bike and legs worked magnificiently !
Before this, I need to tell you my fantastic experience of the Széchenyi Baths in Budapest: I went there on a sunny Saturday morning, when it was not to crowded. I was feeling a little tensed, for leaving Budapest after almost one week off was rather an effort. But entering the first 38C-bath outdoors washed away immediately any nervosity of mine, and nothing of it was left after the water-jet massage on my neck and shoulders! After I lost count of time, I went indoors, where different baths at different temperatures waited for me. The building is beautifully shaby and clear. Outside was vivid, with people talking, running, swimming or sunbathing. Inside was almost silent, with soft light and slow motions. Pleasure of eyes, ears and skin. I altenated baths, sauna, hammams till each jump in the water was a smile and a deep sigh...
Leaving Budapest at 15.00 could not take me very far away. I rode only 50km that day, just enough to pass over 1000km from Munich !
Lost in the middle of openfields, I spoted and soon squatted an abandonned small house, which was a good protection against the windy night. After the luxury and comfort of the previous days, austerity made my night.
The day after was a lonely one, fighting against wind and having difficulties to finding my way South-East, my heart feeling a little bit reluctant to head on. After a hammoc-siesta when the gales were making an invisible wall against me, I got stuck in a sandeous forest where I had to push and pull my bike for some hours. My rear wheel got the 1st puncture because of a thick and sharp 2cm-accacia thorn ! Grrr !
I finally escaped from this labyrinth and managed to find my way to Kecskemét, where Kodaly Zoltan developed his famous music methods.
My sleep was really really deep as if to recover... Or get ready : Monday morning was grey and wet. And so was it all day long! But I was lucky to follow a nice road with almost no cars. Rain magnifies smells and I saw many wild animals... 110km took me to Szeged pretty straight forward, where I have decided to stay 2 nights before heading to Romania and the Carpathians... Where wolfes and Count Dracula are said to wander around...
Next update... Possibly in 7-10 days time.
