A word from Kandira where I am hopeful I shall be able to forward this newsletter, which for some reasons was absolutely impossible in Istanbul.
I have left Istanbul safely by boat on the Bosphorus 4 days ago now...
Those 4 days were not exactly easy for I had to ride along a much more hilly shore than I could ever expect... Tough return on the bike and under the more and more ardent sun...
Up and down, up and down, all day long... 30km on the map meant 1000 m of cumulated ascension... On the way upwards, your legs are close to explode and when suddenly downwards, there is almost no relief as your brakes almost melt as you stand up on them in order to keep on the road...
A lesson out of that ?
1/ Baklavas and bike are not compatible.
2/ The sun is going to be hotter and hotter, no way to change it, then tomorrrow I shall ride from 6.30 am to 10.30 and from 16.00 to 18.00...
3/ Hills are hideous and I hate them. Could anyone exchange a magic carpet for my bike ?
The waters of the Black Sea are beautiful and surprisingly almost soft... And water temperature is absolutely perfect !
Turkish people are just amazingly friendly and full of attentions (even when driving a huge and threatening truck )...
Cherry-trees are all red and strawberries are everywhere.
My bike allows me to stop where my heart tells me to, that means often and everywhere : At a tea-terrasse, along a field, in a store... Meetings happens ten times a day and are mostly re-vigorating.
When I want to be alone, I hide in the shadow of trees, where I hang my hammoc and sleep deliciously in it for a couple of hours if not simply daydreaming...
That´s very close to be a perfect life to my opinion !
All the best...
Barth
